PAINLESS DENTISTRY
We know that many patients are apprehensive about receiving dental care. At Dr. Bilski's, we pride ourselves on our ability to make each patient as comfortable and relaxed as possible while receiving care.
First, at Dr. Bilski Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we listen to your concerns. We then discuss different methods for making you as comfortable as possible. Together, we lay out a treatment plan that will meet your needs. We have several options:
Dr. Bilski's Famous Virtually Painless Injection
Most of our patients at Dr. Bilski Family & Cosmetic Dentistry never know they have received an injection. That's because of Dr. Bilski's famous virtually "Painless Injection" technique. A topical anesthetic is applied to the tissue with a swab. This anesthetic painlessly numbs the spot where the doctor will give you one of the most gentle injections.
Local Anesthetic For Pain Free Care
Injectable anesthetics that are given by Dr. Bilski, such as Lidocaine, prevent pain in a specific area of your mouth during treatment by blocking the nerves that sense or transmit pain and numbing mouth tissues.
They cause the temporary numbness often referred to as a "fat lip" feeling. Injectable anesthetics may be used in such procedures as filling cavities, preparing teeth for crowns or treating gum disease.
Post-Operative Pain Control
We will always do our best to help prevent post-operative discomfort, but as with any dental procedure where hard (tooth) and soft (gum) tissue is manipulated, there is bound to be some discomfort. The following protocol will be of benefit to patients, provided they are not allergic to aspirin, Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
STEP 1: Take 600mg of Ibuprofen (Trade Name: Advil, Nuprin, Motrin IB, or just take generic Ibuprofen 200mg). To get a total of 600mg, you must take three (3) tablets of the 200mg form. We prefer 600mg. Three (3) to 200mg or 400mg because the first 400mg is for pain relief, the next 200mg is anti-inflammatory in nature and this is what actually helps prevent pain. If in the event the 600mg Ibuprofen upsets your stomach, cut back to 1 or 2 tablets.
STEP 2: If the Ibuprofen does not control your pain, then take two (2) tablets of Tylenol extra strength (Tylenol 500mg, generic acetaminophen 500mg) every six hours along with the Ibuprofen 600mg.
STEP 3: If the Ibuprofen and Tylenol extra strength combination does not control your pain, then call our office(even if it is after normal office hours, you will most likely get an answering machine - leave your name and phone number and we will return your call) and we will phone a prescription for a narcotic. We will have you take the Ibuprofen 600mg, one (1) Tylenol extra strength, and one (1) narcotic tablet every six (6) hours. If this does not control the pain, then take the Ibuprofen 600mg and two (2) narcotic tablets.
(NOTE: Each narcotic tablet that we prescribe will have Tylenol in it as well as a narcotic).
If you have any questions, please call our office at 216-524-4410.
