As we always say, dentists fight two things cavities and gum disease. There are a multitude of ways to prevent and treat these oral issues, but today we want to discuss how to treat gum disease with laser therapy.
Treating gum disease with laser therapy is one of the suggested procedures for patients with periodontal disease- those who have bacterial overgrowth and infection in their gums.
This is a non-surgical procedure where we essential deep clean around and under your gums get rid of the existing bacteria and prevent future bacteria and infection.
The first step of the appointment is to numb your mouth so that you don't have to worry about us in there. Then our hygienist uses a special tool to lift up your gums just enough so that we can clean as close to the root as possible. This is called scaling and root planing (SRP.)
The next step is for us to use a CO2 non-contact laser to kill the bacteria and viral contaminants.
Then there are two follow up appointments the next one takes place about three weeks after the first appointment, and we make sure everything is healing correctly. These appointments are quick, easy, and painless with no Novocain necessary.
If you are someone who gets high anxiety about going to the dentist or during procedures, we offer solutions and distraction techniques such as tv, music, and more.
If you have periodontal disease or other gum diseases, laser gum therapy is an effective way to help save your gums and teeth from infection. Contact us today at the Bilski Dental Group to learn more about this procedure and schedule your appointment.
